Week 4 | Facing Your Insecurities | September 22–26

We often doubt ourselves and our abilities. Many of us have felt insecure, inadequate, or maybe  even unqualified to be used by God. But the truth is, God is not looking for the most impressive.  He’s not looking for the most substantial résumé. He’s looking for the willing, the broken, and the  faithful. He specializes in empowering people who feel unworthy to achieve unbelievable things.

Put It into Practice: Stop spectating, start participating. There are needs in the church and the  world that only you can meet. Create a plan to discover the good works God has for you to do.

Day 1 Ephesians 2:1-10

Reflect: How does Paul describe us in verse 10, and what does it mean to you personally? Why do  you think it’s so difficult to believe this truth when we feel insecure or unworthy? Apply: What “good works” do you think God might be preparing you for in this season? Have you  ever felt like you’re not good enough for God to use? How has He already used you in His kingdom? Pray: Loving Father, praise Your wonderful name that I am Your handiwork. Thank You that I was  not saved by good works, but by grace through faith in Jesus. I pray that my life would be lived to  serve You wholeheartedly by the works You prepared me to do for Your honor and glory.

Day 2 1 Samuel 16:6-7

Reflect: God told Samuel not to focus on appearances but on the heart. How does this challenge  the way we usually measure worth or success? How does this text encourage or convict you? Apply: Have you ever been “overlooked” by others, but later saw God had a bigger purpose in  mind? When have you been surprised or shocked by how God used someone? Why?  Pray: I pray for a heart that is pleasing to you, Lord. Like David, may my heart be humble and  wholeheartedly devoted to you. Shape my inner self and mold my character to be a reflection of your  love and compassion.

Day 3 Judges 6:11-16

Reflect: What does this text tell you about how God sees us versus how we see ourselves? What is  different about self-confidence and God-confidence? What causes self-doubt most often?  Apply: What “But Lord” excuses have you offered when God called you to something? Why is it so  easy to doubt ourselves? What is your self-doubt rooted in? When are you most confident? Why?  Pray: Holy God, You called Gideon a “mighty warrior,” yet he saw himself as the least. Remind me  of who You have called me to be and help me see past my own limitations and into the power that  comes from Your Spirit.

Day 4 Luke 22:60-62

Reflect: Peter denies Jesus three times, and yet Jesus later restores him and uses him mightily. How does this story speak to your fear of failure? What does this moment of failure + future  redemption reveal about Jesus’ character?

Apply: What insecurity or past failure is God inviting you to surrender so He can use you more fully? Pray: Father God, You use imperfect people for Your perfect plan. I ask that You use my  brokenness to bring a greater purpose for my life. Strengthen me to share the good news of Your  enduring love and power.

Day 5 1 Corinthians 15:9-10

Reflect: Paul acknowledges his past failure—yet he still steps into God’s calling. What’s the  difference between guilt and grace in Paul’s words? How has Saul’s/Paul’s confidence changed?  Apply: How can you let grace empower you rather than letting guilt disqualify you? Which of the Bible characters this week—David, Gideon, Paul, or Peter—do you relate to most right now? Why? Pray: Lord Jesus, thank You that like Paul, it is by the grace of God that I am what I am. I pray that daily, I am conformed more into Your image and likeness through Your Holy Spirit.
