Gospel in Full Color – Week 4: Yellow: God with Us | March 9–13
Yellow makes us think of sunlight breaking through the clouds, and reminds us of something precious, something enduring. Yellow symbolizes God’s revelation and His faithfulness to fulfill His promises. Simeon and Anna, who waited patiently for the Messiah, show us that Jesus is the most precious treasure. In Lent, we’re invited to lay down lesser treasures, the things we cling to, and to hold tightly to Christ, the Light of the world, and the true treasure, true gold.
Put It into Practice: Release a lesser treasure. Identify one thing you rely on for comfort or control more than God. Fast from it for the week to re-center your heart.
Day 1 Luke 2:22–40
Reflect: What do Simeon and Anna’s lives reveal about waiting on God? How does the Spirit guide Simeon in recognizing Jesus? What does this text teach about patience and hope in God’s timing?
Apply: Where are you currently waiting on God to act or fulfill a promise? How might faithfulness in prayer and worship shape your waiting? How have you recognized God’s presence in your life?
Pray: Help me, Lord, to trust Your plans, even when they bring pain. Help me to ponder these things, to live out Your purposes for me, and be an instrument of Your peace and light in a world that so desperately needs to know You.
Day 2 Isaiah 9:1-3
Reflect: How does Isaiah describe the darkness the people were experiencing? What images are used to describe the arrival of God’s light? How does this promised light transform sorrow into joy?
Apply: Where do you see darkness or heaviness in your own life or community? Describe a time when the Light of Christ overtook a darkness you were experiencing. When have you been a light?
Pray: God, when darkness seems overwhelming, remind me that Jesus, the Light of the world, has come! Help me to walk in His light and share that radiant hope with all who need it.
Day 3 John 8:12-20
Reflect: For what reasons do you think Jesus used the imagery of light? When Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” what is he claiming? What two promises does Jesus make to those who follow him?
Apply: Where might Jesus be calling you to follow His light more fully? What hidden things in your life has Jesus’ light exposed? How would you answer this: “What do you want when you want light?”
Pray: Lord Jesus, shine Your light into my heart, chasing away the shadows of guilt, shame, and sin. Guide me out of spiritual confusion and into Your truth and peace.
Day 4 Philippians 3:5–11
Reflect: Why does Paul now consider the things from his old life a “loss” compared to knowing Christ? Describe the treasure he has now. What does it mean to share in His sufferings and resurrection life?
Apply: How would you describe the treasure of knowing Christ? What things now seem worthless to you because of Christ? How might clinging to lesser treasures keep you from fully knowing Him?
Pray: Help me to press on, straining forward for the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. I long to attain the resurrection from the dead, not because I’ve perfected myself, but because Christ Jesus laid hold of me.
Day 5 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
Reflect: How does this passage explain why some people reject the Gospel? How would you explain the use of light in this text? Why does God choose to place His treasure in “jars of clay”?
Apply: How did God shine the light into your heart, overcoming your spiritual blindness? How can you testify to this to the people around you? How has God’s power flowed through you as a clay vessel?
Pray: Thank You, God, for this treasure, this glorious gospel, in my fragile earthly vessel. Use my weakness, my brokenness, my imperfections, so that the perfection of Your power is clearly seen as Yours, not mine.
