Family Matters: Build Strong – August 4-8

Building a strong biblical foundation in your home will be a game-changer for your family. There are  four guiding principles for Christian families in a post-Christian culture: continually hear the truth, love  the Lord passionately, diligently teach the young, and fear the Lord greatly. A family rooted in these  principles becomes a beacon of light in a dark world. Commit to building your family strong!

Put It into Practice: Prayerfully make a list of the things that you want your home to be filled with (e.g., peace, grace, joy, honesty, Scripture, laughter, forgiveness). Decide what needs to change or  be added to make that happen. Consider doing this as a family to get everyone’s buy-in.

Day 1      Deuteronomy 6:1-9

Reflect: What key principles is God teaching through Moses, and why? How would you describe the  relationship between love of God and obedience to Him? How often do you use the word obey?

Apply:  How regularly do you engage with God’s Word personally and as a family? What visible  reminders of God’s presence or promises do you keep in your home? How is God first in your life?

Pray:    Lord, help us to love You with our whole hearts and to live out our faith with consistency,  passion, and purpose. May Your Word shape our homes and guide the next generation.

Day 2     Deuteronomy 10:12-22

Reflect: Which of the requirements of God do you find most challenging? How does the truth in v. 14  impact how you see your life, family, and possessions? What do you think v. 16 means spiritually?

Apply: Does your family see in you a love for God, a heart of obedience, and a desire to serve Him? How are you modeling for your children/grandchildren to care about those in need (v. 18)?

Pray:   Lord, help me to walk in reverence and obedience to You. Shape my heart, and help me lead  my family in love, justice, and truth. May our home reflect Your compassion and Your holiness.

Day 3     Joshua 24:1-28

Reflect: What acts of God’s faithfulness can you remember in your family history (vv. 2-13)? What  idols are influencing you? How does v. 15 challenge the way you make decisions in your home?

Apply:  How often do you speak with your children/grandchildren about faith, salvation, and making  personal decisions to follow God? What family practices could reinforce your spiritual values?

Pray:    Lord, help me to lead my family with the courage and clarity of Joshua. Let our home be known  as one that serves You faithfully. Give me wisdom to pass on a legacy of heartfelt devotion to You.

Day 4      Matthew 7:24-27

Reflect: What is Jesus teaching about the difference between hearing and doing? How do the choices of the two builders affect not only their homes, but also those inside them?

Apply:   What spiritual truths have you “heard” but not yet applied? What storms (challenges) have  revealed cracks in your foundation? What consistent habits help establish a strong spiritual structure?

Pray:    Lord, we want to build our home on the rock of Your Word and Your ways. Give us wisdom to  live what we’ve heard and courage to lead our families in obedience. May our home stand firm in  every season, for it is rooted in You

Day 5      Proverbs 24:3-4

Reflect: What kind of “wisdom” builds a strong family? How can “understanding” help your family  relationships? What kind of “treasures” do you want your home to be filled with?

Apply:   What are the “building blocks” of your family now—are they eternal or temporary? What  adjustments do you need to make to strengthen your home’s spiritual foundation? Ask God about it.

Pray:    Lord, give us wisdom to build our family on You. Help us not just to hear Your Word, but to live  it out. Fill our home with the treasures of Your Spirit—peace, grace, and truth—so our foundation will  stand firm no matter what comes.
