Week 1: Dealing with Your Doubt September 1-5

Dealing with Your Doubt

Every believer—whether brand new to faith or has followed Jesus for decades—has experienced
doubt at some point. Let’s be honest: sometimes it’s hard to believe. Life throws things at us—
suffering, injustice, unanswered prayers—and it shakes us. And then we wonder: Where is God? Is
He listening? Is He even real? If you’re wrestling with doubt, hear this: your doubt doesn’t disqualify
your faith. We need to bring our doubts to Jesus, who welcomes them with open arms.

Put It into Practice: Find a safe person or community where you can voice your doubts without fear
of judgment. When you bring questions into the light, they lose their power to isolate you.

Day 1      John 20:24-29

Reflect: What do you think caused Thomas’ doubt, and how did Jesus respond to it? What does it
mean to “believe” in the context of this text? When have you needed to “see for yourself” to believe?

Apply:   How does Jesus’ statement in verse 29 challenge your understanding of faith? How does
Jesus’ invitation to Thomas encourage you to respond to others’ doubts?

Pray:     Thank You, Father, for opening my spiritual eyes of faith to see You! I pray that I will trust the
truth of Your Word, not my senses or emotions. Strengthen my faith today, Lord, and send me out to
proclaim Your good news.

Day 2     Genesis 3:1-6

Reflect: What strategy does the serpent use to introduce doubt into Eve’s mind? What did she start
to doubt about God? How does this reflect how doubt enters our thinking today?

Apply: When have you experienced a moment where you began to question God’s intentions or His
goodness? What helped and didn’t help you in those moments? Did the doubt cause you to sin?

Pray:    God, forgive me for the times I have turned away from You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, so
that I may discern the truth from lies and resist temptations. Help me to stand firm in Your promises
and walk in Your ways.

Day 3    Matthew 28:1-17

Reflect: The women and disciples encountered the risen Jesus—yet verse 17 says, “Some
doubted.” Why do you think that is? What does this tell us about how faith and doubt can coexist?

Apply:   In your experience, can worship and doubt live in the same heart? Why or why not? How do
you discern between God’s voice and the enemy’s voice when doubt arises?

Pray:   Lord Jesus, help me to overcome my doubts and worship You with all my heart. With the help
of the Holy Spirit, may my faith grow stronger, and may I always be ready to bow down before You
in awe and adoration.

Day 4     Mark 9:14-29

Reflect: What does this story reveal about how Jesus responds to imperfect faith? What does “if
you can” imply? How do you relate to this paradox of belief and doubt coexisting (verse 24)?

Apply:   When have you proclaimed the words: Help me with my unbelief? How did Jesus respond,
and what resulted? What role does prayer play in your journey through doubt? Are you persistent?

Pray:     Heavenly Father, I believe in Your power and love, but there are times when my faith falters.
Help me to grow in faith, trust You more fully, rely on Your strength, and teach me the power of
prayer.

Day 5   Hebrews 3:12-13

Reflect: Consider the warning in verse 12. What factors in life make that feel tempting or easy?
How are unbelief and sin related? Is unbelief a sin? Why/why not? How does encouragement help?

Apply:  How can unchecked doubt or isolation lead to a slow drifting away from faith? What kind of
encouragement strengthens your faith most? Who in your life needs encouragement right now?

Pray:   God, give me wisdom and discernment as I read the whole counsel of Your Word and guide
me into all truth. I pray that You would align my thoughts to Your thoughts and my will to Your will.
