Prayers of God’s People-Week 5: Prayer of Deliverance – Hezekiah May 19-23
The story of Hezekiah offers us a powerful lesson, right living leads to right praying. This isn’t about earning God’s favor but about living in a way that naturally leads to a deeper, more effective prayer life. Hezekiah was a king who faced immense pressure, yet he was known for doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord. His life was a testament to constant communication with God, and when crisis hit, his prayers were a natural outflow of his relationship with God.
Put It into Practice: Keep a journal of answered prayers and testimonies of God’s work in your life. Share these stories with others to encourage and build up the faith of your community.
Day 1 2 Kings 18:1-7
Reflect: How is Hezekiah described in these verses? What stands out about his character and actions? Why do you think Hezekiah’s faithfulness to God was significant in his leadership?
Apply: Are there areas where you need to trust and hold fast to God more faithfully? Are there things you need to remove from your life that are hindering your relationship with God?
Pray: God, help me to trust You and hold fast to You; to follow You and obey You. May Your presence surround me for my good, others gain, and Your glory.
Day 2 2 Kings 19:1-20
Reflect: What does Hezekiah do first, and why is that important? How does Hezekiah’s prayer reflect his relationship with God and the importance of living a life aligned with His will?
Apply: What role do community and shared prayer play in Hezekiah’s story? Why is that important for us today? Who are the ‘Isaiahs” in your life? How can you reach out to them for prayer support?
Pray: Lord, tests and trials are opportunities to cry out to You for guidance, protection and strength, deliverance, and restoration. May all the kingdoms of the earth know You are God.
Day 3 2 Kings 20:1-7
Reflect: What can we learn from Hezekiah’s prayer in this text? How does it compare to his earlier prayer in 2 Kings 19? What role does the prophet Isaiah play? What do you learn about God?
Apply: What resonates most with you in this passage? How can you apply the lessons of Hezekiah’s prayer and illness to your own life, especially when facing difficult circumstances?
Pray: God, in my time of need, You hear my pleas and see my tears. I pray, not just for myself, but for my loved ones and community. May we find strength and hope in Your unwavering love.
Day 4 Psalm 91:1-16
Reflect: Who is the person that God protects and delivers? What specific dangers are mentioned in these verses, and how can we apply this to our own lives?
Apply: This psalm is the 911 call for the child of God. We trust God, our first responder in crisis. We have the promise of God’s protection by trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Pray: Pray this psalm, applying these promises for yourself and for the protection of others.
Day 5 2 Samuel 22:1-20
Reflect: In his song, how does David describe God and His response to David’s call for help? How does his experience of deliverance serve as a model for our faith and reliance on God?
Apply: How can you use David’s song as a model for your prayers? If you were to write your own song of deliverance today, what would you say?
Pray: Reflect on the words of David and offer your song of praise and thanksgiving for God’s deliverance and unwavering strength.
