Myth Week 4 Was Jesus God? December 16-20
An investigation into the divine nature of Jesus, focusing on His attributes and actions, will reveal that He is God in human form. The Bible says Jesus is unique in both His person and His purpose. He wasn’t just some spiritual individual during His time on earth; He was both God’s Son and God Himself—God in human flesh. Yes, He was fully man, but He was also fully God.
Day 1 John 1:1-14
Reflect: How is John declaring that Jesus is God? What is significant about Jesus being called the Word? The Light? Why is it important that we accept Jesus as fully God and fully human?
Apply: What makes it hard for people to believe Jesus is God? How do you understand the Trinity? How does Jesus’ divinity impact your understanding of His teachings?
Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was made flesh and came to dwell among us as fully God and fully human. I praise God that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, I am redeemed.
Day 2 Colossians 2:6-10
Reflect: Contemplate the fullness of God dwelling in Christ. How does this truth affect your relationship with Jesus? What attributes of God are seen in Jesus?
Apply: Do you struggle more with Jesus being fully human or fully divine? Why? What would you say was the primary reason for the incarnation?
Pray: God, thank You for Jesus in whom all things were made by Him and for Him. Inevitably, the answers to life’s questions lie in the truth found in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Day 3 Hebrews 1:1-3
Reflect: What comes to your mind when you consider Jesus as the radiance of God’s glory? Does this text help you understand Jesus as God? Why or why not?
Apply: How does this definition of GLORY help you grasp Jesus as God: the magnificence, worth, loveliness, and grandeur of God’s many perfections? How can you reflect His glory?
Pray: Lord, I praise You for being the radiant reflection of God’s glory, and for sustaining the universe and everything in it.
Day 4 Philippians 2:5-11
Reflect: How does Paul explain Jesus’ humility and exaltation? Should every knee bow at the name of Jesus if He wasn’t divine? Why is declaring Jesus as Lord declaring He is God?
Apply: What attributes and actions demonstrate Jesus’ deity? What could Jesus not have done if He wasn’t God? How can you emulate Jesus’ humility in your interactions with others?
Pray: Loving Father, thank You for Jesus, my Savior and King, my Lord and my God Who alone is worthy to receive all honor and praise. I pray that I draw ever closer to Him, and that I may decrease and He may increase, until Christ is seen in me.
Day 5 Isaiah 9:6-7
Reflect: How does Isaiah reflect both Messiah’s humanity and divinity in this prophecy? The temporal and eternal aspect of the Christ? How do you see the Trinity reflected here?
Apply: As you celebrate Jesus’ birth, ask Him to reveal Himself to you in new and more powerful ways as your Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Pray: Loving Lord, no matter how many times I read of the wonder of Your incarnation as the Word made flesh, it fills me with wonder and praise. Lord, I worship You in the beauty of holiness, and I bow down before Your throne of grace in wonderment, for You are holy.
