Who Should Be Baptized?
Anyone who professes faith in Jesus Christ and has not been baptized. We baptize by immersing in water or sprinkling water in a pool of water in our worship space, symbolizing union with Christ in His burial and resurrection, as Colossians 2:12 teaches. Our local church recognizes baptisms from other churches, including Catholic churches, and therefore does not re-baptize people, but we do encourage people to attend a special baptism worship service to remember their baptisms as an expression of faith in Jesus Christ.
When Do Baptisms Occur?
Baptisms occur during all worship services on select Sundays throughout the year, uniting members of the church in celebrating this sacred act that reflects the glory of the Father.
How Do I Schedule a Baptism?
Adult baptisms, as an expression of faith, are scheduled through online registration here. To register for an infant/child baptism, complete the form and our staff will be in contact with you, as we partner with parents to raise children in the body of Christ.
What is Child Baptism?
When parents who regularly attend Anderson Hills are ready to make the commitment to raise their child in the Christian faith and decide to baptize infants or have them blessed, we want to come alongside them and partner with them throughout their journey. Infant baptism, often practiced in traditions like Catholic churches, signifies the inclusion of children in God’s family and the washing away of original sin through the grace of Jesus Christ, as guided by the Holy Spirit.
What if we are not Members of Anderson Hills?
Prior to having a child baptized or blessed, parents who are not members of the church must attend the Spiritual Growth Track series. This 3-week series helps you identify where you are on your spiritual journey and how to move to a profound love of God and others, as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19-20 to “go and make disciples, baptizing them.” A fourth week is for membership. Register for an upcoming Spiritual Growth Track.
What is the Baptism and Blessing Class?
All parents must attend the Baptism and Blessing Class, once. This prepares them for the Sacrament of Baptism and the Baby Blessing Ceremony, which reflect the order that just as Christ was baptized by John the Baptist, we follow in His footsteps through the Holy Spirit.
During this session we also discuss:
-
The role of parents and the local church in the spiritual development of children
-
What makes a home Christ-centered, rooted in union with Christ
-
Blessing your child as part of God’s family
